Shuffle: The Story of Crypto's Fastest-Rising Casino

How Shuffle.com went from a 2023 launch by a farm kid turned coder to a top-three crypto casino, with the SHFL token, a million-dollar lottery and $2B months.

Shuffle: The Story, the Shuffle app icon on a dark purple background

In February 2023 a small team in Melbourne switched on a crypto casino that, by its own admission, was built by people who had never run one. Three and a half years later Shuffle.com takes more than $2 billion in bets a month, runs one of the largest weekly lotteries on the internet, and sits among the top three crypto casinos in the world by deposits. This is how it happened.

The founder who wanted to build a poker app

Shuffle's founder and CEO is Noah Dummett, an Australian who grew up on a farm and taught himself to code at 14, by his own account "to escape farm life". He left school at 17 for a job at the tech company Intercom, moved into crypto at the derivatives exchange BitMEX in 2018, and in 2019 flew to Hong Kong to join FTX two months after it launched, later working on settlements and OTC trading on the Alameda side. He left in 2021 to build his own company, well before that exchange's collapse.

The idea came in March 2021. Dummett has said he woke up with the concept of an on-chain poker app, wrote it on a whiteboard, and published a proposal called Sol Vegas for a fully decentralised casino. He soon concluded that a casino living entirely on-chain could not work yet: no identity checks meant collusion at the poker tables, and the chain was too slow for instant payouts. Those lessons became the blueprint for something more practical, a crypto-native casino with the speed and polish of a regular one.

February 2023: launch, with no gambling background

Shuffle.com went live on 1 February 2023, operated by Natural Nine B.V. in Curaçao. Dummett was candid about the starting point: "We came into our February launch not knowing a thing about running a betting platform." His pitch to the industry was that this was a feature, not a bug. "We're not gamblers, so we have a new approach to things."

That approach was a start-up one. Ship a minimum viable product, listen, and iterate fast with a small team. The casino opened with its own provably fair Originals such as Dice, Crash, Plinko, Mines, Keno and Hilo, plus a growing library of third-party slots and live tables, and later added a full sportsbook.

The numbers moved quickly. By August 2023 players were wagering $112 million a month; by September it was $252 million, and the founding team says the business was profitable in its fifth month. Dummett took inspiration from another Melbourne-born operator, Stake, and set an "unapologetic" goal of catching it. His analysis was that roughly 20% of a casino's success is the product and 80% is marketing and distribution.

March 2024: the SHFL token and the airdrop that tripled the site

Shuffle's second year opened with a $2.5 million funding round from crypto funds and angels, announced on 23 February 2024, and a whitepaper for its own token, SHFL. The token launched in mid-March 2024 through a public liquidity bootstrapping pool that hit its 20 million USDC cap, then went live on Ethereum.

The real event was Airdrop 1. Ten percent of the one-billion token supply, 100 million SHFL worth roughly $50 million at launch, went to everyone who had played on Shuffle in its first year, weighted by how much they wagered. Dummett called it "probably one of the largest bonus events in the crypto casino world to date", and said Shuffle "tripled in size after that". In April 2024 the site wagered $1.25 billion in a single month.

The token was designed to keep that loyalty loop turning. A share of the casino's net gaming revenue was used to buy back and burn SHFL every Friday, 28% of the supply was reserved for three player airdrops, and Dummett spoke about the token at his first keynote, at Token2049 in Dubai, that April. SHFL was listed on Backpack Exchange in May 2024.

2024: esports, a licence of its own, and $2 billion months

Shuffle's marketing has always been creator- and community-led rather than built on stadium deals. In June 2024 it signed a million-dollar-a-year partnership with the UK esports organisation Into the Breach, whose Counter-Strike and Dota teams rebranded as ITB.Shuffle, and launched the Shuffle Masters tournament series for up-and-coming teams. "As someone who grew up playing CS, I'm incredibly excited to be further involved in the space," Dummett said at the time.

October 2024 was the biggest month in the company's history. Shuffle announced it had passed $2 billion in monthly bets and nearly $13 billion in total bets since launch. Independent analysts ranked it the third-largest crypto casino in the world by deposits, eighteen months after opening. On 16 October the Curaçao regulator granted Natural Nine B.V. its own direct licence under the island's reformed system, replacing the sub-licence Shuffle had launched on.

And on 18 October the SHFL Lottery held its first draw with a $1,000,000 prize pool. From that point 15% of the casino's net gaming revenue has gone into the weekly pool instead of buybacks, while 30% of revenue taken in SHFL is still burned every Friday. Staking 50 SHFL earns a perpetual ticket, so holding the token means a weekly shot at the jackpot for as long as you keep it.

Airdrop 2 followed on 14 December 2024: 90 million SHFL, with more than ten times as many eligible players as the first round.

2025: the lottery becomes "the internet's lotto"

If the token was Shuffle's first big idea, the lottery was its second. In March 2025 it was rebuilt so that anyone could buy a single ticket in any deposit currency, with Powerplay tickets and a live prize pool on screen. The winners are drawn live every week on stream.

The pools kept climbing: past $1 million in December 2024, past $2 million in March 2025, and to a record $4.47 million starting pool for a draw in November 2025. In March 2026 a player took a $1.19 million jackpot. The lottery is backed by a $3 million USDC insurance fund so that a jackpot hit or a bad week never touches the prize money.

The rest of the platform kept pace. Shuffle runs a $100,000 weekly race and a $20,000 weekly raffle, drops cash codes twice a day in its Telegram channels, and in early 2025 had its random number generator independently certified by iTech Labs. In June 2025 it became title sponsor of the Asian esports organisation Team Nemesis, and in September it partnered with the live-games studio 155.io. The same month it launched Shuffle.us, a free-to-play social casino for American players. By late 2025 the company was reporting more than $100 million in annualised net gaming revenue.

Dummett's summary of the year was typically blunt: "A lot of our attention went into making the transition from medium to large casino." It was not a flawless year. In October 2025 a breach at Fast Track, a third-party marketing provider used by many operators, exposed customer data, and Shuffle disclosed it publicly the same day, which is more than most operators manage.

2026: a year of weekly airdrops

The third and final airdrop began on 7 March 2026 and does something no casino has tried before: 90 million SHFL handed out over a full year, with an airdrop to the top players every single week until March 2027. By June 2026 Shuffle had burned 76.7 million SHFL, about 7.7% of the entire supply, and on-chain trackers put its trailing annual deposits at $2.34 billion, up 41% on the year before, still third among crypto casinos.

The founder's public goals for 2026, posted in January, read like a dare: make Shuffle the second-biggest crypto casino in the world, create at least two millionaires from the SHFL Lottery, play a $1 million game of UNO, and, as a stretch goal, acquire Stake.

Why players stick around

Strip away the numbers and Shuffle's story is about a few decisions that turned out to be right.

  • Provably fair from day one. Every Shuffle Original can be verified by the player with the server seed, client seed and nonce, and the RNG carries an independent certificate.
  • Instant crypto withdrawals. No banking delays, which is why crypto casinos exist in the first place.
  • A token that pays players, not just investors. 28% of SHFL was reserved for the people who actually bet on the site, and the lottery gives every holder a weekly ticket.
  • A community you can reach. Tens of thousands of members across Telegram, X and Kick, daily giveaways, and a founder who posts the monthly numbers himself.
